HIATUS

HIATUS
Hello everyone! It looks like I have to take a break from blogging. I have been so busy lately and it doesn't look like things will get any easier for a while. Hopefully it won't be like this for too long. I already miss blogging and will definitely be back!

I didn’t receive anything this month either. I think all the hardcovers on my wish list are scaring everyone away. Haha! But they are so pretty! How can you not love hardcovers?!

This month I sent Entice by Carrie Jones to Mist @ Bookaholics Book Club. I hope you enjoy it! :)

BOOK REVIEW: THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY

Some summers are just destined to be pretty.

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer -- they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
- From Goodreads
Title: The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer #1)
Author: Jenny Han
Pages: 276
Genres: Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

I had no idea if I was going to like this book or not when I first started reading it. Every book I’ve read in my life (not including the extremely boring literature my teachers have forced me to read throughout my life) have always had something paranormal involved, but this time it would just be two families spending their summer together at their beach house like they’ve done every year. Completely normal, right? No vampires hiding under their beds, no werewolves howling outside their windows at night, not even a child with a scar and a wooden stick. And you know what? I actually liked it.

The Summer I Turned Pretty has a very nice flow throughout the book. I loved the parts where Belly, the protagonist, would hint to something that had happened in the past, and then the next chapter would be a flashback of that memory. Every flashback added a nice detail to the story and helped the reader understand the characters a lot more and in what way they were connected to each other. One of my favorites was from the summer when Belly had brought her best friend Taylor with her. I’m sure most people have met or even been that girl one time in their life. I sure know who she reminded me of.

I’ve always liked it when I can believe in the words and actions of the characters in a story, and Jenny Han does not disappoint in that field. I did notice some people found Belly a bit whiny and annoying at times, but I really have to disagree on that. When you grow up with boys that always tease you and make you stand on the outside, you don’t exactly show them the “talk to the hand” movement and walk off to paint your nails with your mothers tequila collection. Okay, so maybe that was a little dramatic, but I’m sure you get my point. It’s nice to see when an author isn’t afraid to add flaws to a character. I think sometimes authors tend to make their characters too perfect without even realizing it because they want the readers to like them so much.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a nice and easy read that’s not hard to enjoy. Although you can read this whenever you like, I would recommend reading it in the summer as this would be the perfect summer read for anyone out there.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS: SEPTEMBER

Book Soulmates

I didn't receive any books this month either, so there's not a lot to say on that. This was also the first month I couldn't afford to send out a book to someone else. It's crazy how much money you end up spending in just one day when you meet up with friends you haven't seen for a whole year. At least I got a lot of wonderful memories!
